Meet Petwa, a devoted mother who has taken in three orphaned relatives in addition to caring for her own children. She lives in a mud wattle house that is collapsing, leaving the family vulnerable to dangerous conditions, including snakes that enter through holes in the walls. Among her children is Emmanuel, who is severely disabled, and Isaac, one of the orphans, who recently fractured his knee and will be on crutches for some time.
